Enjoyed a beautiful evening of celebration, music, community, and culture at the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health “Igniting the Spirit Gala 2024” in Ottawa.This year’s theme was the Drum: The Heartbeat of Mother Earth. Over 600 people were gathered to celebrate National Indigenous People’s Day and to raise funds for Wabano’s essential services. A big thank you to Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) for the generous invitation.

🧡 Stories like this demonatrate the real impact of our Talking Stick program in Canada, providing a virtual safe space for Indigenous voices. 🧡Earlier this month, a community member shared a heartfelt message of gratitude with us. "I've heard of Talking Stick," he said. "This is great to see up here in the north." He shook our hand and didn't let go. “My daughter used Talking Stick during a tough time. She was struggling with suicidal thoughts and self-harming. She started chatting with your peer advocates, and it made a big difference. Now she talks to elders and is healing through our ceremonies. eHealth 2024 was incredible! The energy, the sense of community, the networking, and the people behind Canada's #digitalhealth innovation left me feeling proud to be part of this thriving ecosystem. Three humans that inspired me most:🚀 Maureen O'Connor Abbott, MA, CHE and Sapna Wadhawan of the Mental Health Commission of Canada spoke on the development (and June 2024 launch!) of a NATIONAL framework of standards for Mental Health apps in Canada. 🚀 Dr. Kathleen Ross, Family Physician and President, Canadian Medical Association, shared the most memorable "hair of fire" photo (if you know, you know!), emphasizing the need to maintain humanity, to empower patients, and to reduce healthcare burnout with LESS technology, not more. 🚀Tamara Taggart, podcast host of TELUS Talks, and volunteer President of Down Syndrome BC spoke from the heart. About the importance of prioritizing people with disabilities IN the design process, not after. To the attendees who took the time to attend my talk with Michelle Voegtle, LPC, M.Ed.
