GAME NOTES| FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

  • USWNT Starting XI Cap Numbers (Including this match): Morgan (224), Horan (148), Dunn (147), Lavelle (100), Sonnett (91), Krueger (49), Murphy (19), Shaw (14), Albert (11), Nighswonger (9), Staab (2)
  • Tuesday’s starting lineup to face Korea Republic features nine different players from the Starting XI that opened the match in Denver, with Jenna Nighswonger and Lindsey Horan the only players to start both matches.
  • Tonight’s lineup averages 28 years of age and 73 caps per player.
  • Midfielder Rose Lavelle returns to the starting lineup and earns her historic 100th cap for the U.S. Women’s National Team, becoming the 43rd player in program history to reach the milestone. A 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup champion, Lavelle debuted for the USWNT in March of 2017 and had a breakout performance at the 2019 World Cup. After tallying an assist off the bench on Saturday’s win in Denver, she now has 24 goals and 24 assists in her international career and is on the verge of becoming just the 19th player in USWNT history with 25+ goals and 25+ assists.
  • Lindsey Horan will make her team-leading ninth start of 2024 as she earns her 148th cap for the USWNT. Horan leads the U.S. with 723 minutes played this year and has seven goal involvements in her last 11 games, scoring six goals and adding one assist during that span.
  • Casey Murphy will start in goal for the USWNT, making her 19th international appearance in what will be her second start – and second appearance overall – for the USWNT in 2024. Murphy started and kept a clean sheet in the USA’s 4-0 win over Argentina in the second group stage game of the Concacaf W Gold Cup and now has recorded a shutout in each of her last seven appearances for the USWNT, a streak that began at the start of 2023. Her 14 career clean sheets rank sixth all-time in USWNT history.
  • Three days after earning her first cap for the USWNT, Sam Staab will make the first start of her international career. Staab came on to play the final 30 minutes of the USA’s win over Korea Republic on June 1, becoming the 259th player overall to earn a cap for the USWNT and the first player to debut under new head coach Emma Hayes. This was the first senior National Team call-up for the 27-year-old Staab.
  • Jenna Nighswonger will make her second consecutive start and sixth of 2024 as she earns her ninth cap for the USWNT. Nighswonger logged the fifth 90-minute performance of her international career in the USA’s June 1 victory at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, helping the USWNT keep a clean sheet.
  • Korbin Albert will earn her 11th cap for the USWNT as she makes her sixth career start for the USWNT and first since the Concacaf W Gold Cup final on March 10 against Brazil. Albert is one of six players to appear in every match for the USWNT so far in 2024 and started five of the USA’s six games at the Gold Cup.
  • The USWNT’s leading scorer this year with five goals, Jaedyn Shaw is set to earn her 14th cap as she makes her seventh career start. The 19-year-old Shaw made history as the first player in USWNT history to score in each of her first five career starts and while she went scoreless in her sixth career start, which came in the SheBelieves Cup final against Canada, she tallied her first career assist on Sophia Smith’s first goal of the afternoon. In six career starts, Shaw has been directly involved in seven goals (six goals scored, one assist), compared to just one goal in seven appearances off the bench.
  • Alex Morgan will make her 224th international appearance for the USWNT as she makes her seventh start of 2024. Morgan started both games for the USA at the 2024 SheBelieves Cup and also started all three knockout round matches at the Concacaf W Gold Cup, along with the second group stage match against Argentina. Morgan has two goals and three assists in six previous appearances against South Korea, the most recent coming when she scored and tallied and assist in the USA’s October 26, 2021, win in St. Paul.
  • Emily Sonnett is set to make her 91st international appearance for the USWNT as she makes her third start of 2024. Sonnett has appeared in seven of the USA’s nine matches so far this year, making starts in the midfield against the Dominican Republic and in the SheBelieves Cup final against Canada. Sonnett started the USWNT most recent match in Minnesota, playing 90 minutes and tallying an assist in the USA’s win over Korea Republic on October 26, 2021.
  • Starting on the forward line for the USWNT for the first time since July 30, 2017, Crystal Dunn will earn her 147th cap as she makes her fifth start of 2024. Dunn has 24 career goals for the USWNT and came on to the forward line to play the final 30 minutes of Saturday’s win over Korea Republic in Colorado which marked her first time playing as a forward for the USWNT since January of 2021.
  • Casey Krueger will make her second start and seventh appearance for the USWNT in 2024 as she earns her 48th cap overall. Krueger started the USA’s 4-0 win over Argentina at the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup and assisted Alex Morgan’s goal in the 19th minute for the fifth assist of her career and her first since giving birth to her son, Caleb, in July of 2022. A member of the 2021 Olympic Team, Krueger’s soon-to-be seven caps in 2024 are her most in a calendar year for the USWNT since 2018 (eight caps).
