Boozy hot chocolates are nothing new but it is usually dark rum or cream-based liqueurs that are added to these indulgent winter warmers.But this year has seen a new trend of using red wine in sweet treats, such as brownies.
Now it is the turn of hot chocolates to be given a red wine infusion - and the results are as delicious as you might expect.

Look away now clean eaters, as this spiced red wine hot chocolate recipe contains both whole milk and condensed milk.
And if it wasn't sweet enough, the recipe requires a teaspoon of sugar and is topped with decadent mini marshmallows.

The recipe by Ashley Pletcher for her blog Afternoon Espressouses a Garnarcha red wine, as the wine brand sponsored Ashley's blog post.

But any red wine can be substituted to achieve the same tasty result. Try for yourself by following Pletcher's recipe below.
The recipe has only been pinned 132 times but according to Pinterest, it is trending widely on the bookmarking website.
It comes as social media continues to go wild for red wine brownies, which have been dubbed one of the most indulgent desserts ever.
If you're unsure about how the dessert would actually taste, it has received rave reviews on social media.
Many people have added 'drunken' cranberries and nuts to their creations.
Try eating one with your spiced red wine hot chocolate.
RECIPE: SPICED RED WINE HOT CHOCOLATE
Ashley Pletcher has shared with Femail Food&Drink her recipe for spiced red wine hot chocolate, originally posted on her Afternoon Espresso blog
Ingredients:
1 cup Garnacha red wine
1 tbsp brown sugar
3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
2 cups whole milk
1 can sweetened condensed milk
Marshmallows for topping
Method:
Combine all of the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Add the condensed milk, wine, and whole milk to the dry ingredients.
In a large pot, heat over the stove on medium high (constantly stirring) until you start to see the steam coming off.
Be sure not to let it boil. Pour into your favorite mug.
As an option you can top with marshmallows, cinnamon, and shaved chocolate. Snuggle up by a fire and enjoy!
