A wide range of ice cream products have been recalled due to potential contamination with listeria.
Numerous brands are included in the recall, announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and manufacturer Totally Cool Inc., including Hershey's, Friendly's, and The Frozen Farmer. The issue was discovered after FDA sampling found the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause food poisoning.

Listeria infections can cause food poisoning, which can lead to unpleasant symptoms and can sometimes result in serious illness. Signs of a listeria infection include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
In more vulnerable individuals, such as the very young, elderly, and those with weakened immune systems, infections can be much more serious, whereas most healthy people will make a full recovery.
