I know he'll always be remembered for Star Trek with those puffy, watery, bloodshot eyes, but I also can recall another half dozen top-notch performances from the same time period. I particularly enjoy his corrupt, murderous music industry producer in "Blues", from S6 of Mission: Impossible. In fact, fellow FSMer Stefan Miklos and I discussed Windom just last week when we met for dinner. - Barney-as-Crane: “Oh, come on, baby. I’m talking about Judy Saunders. Now, you killed the chick. I got you cold.” - Stu Gorman: “How do you figure that?” - Barney-as-Crane: “Huh. Well, we’ll skip the details for now. But I got you, man.” “Maybe he’s got something he always wanted… a little power! Man like Crane, he likes to see people jump!” —Anxious Stu Gorman to Joe Belker. - Stu Gorman: “You idiot, you’ve got nothing.” - Joe Belker: “It’s all here, Gorman. I’ve got you nailed.” - Stu Gorman: “You’re missing it this time, Belker. The tape is a phony. The impersonations are good, but the words are all wrong.” BLUES

Doesn't look like him to me and what would he be doing in this clearly low budget British commercial? I do however recognize the guy from Star Wars and Space:1999 ("The Bringers of Wonder") though. I just watched "Doomsday Machine" 2 nights ago. I met WW at a sci-fi convention in California back in the 90's and gushed a bit to him over his performance (I was acting like I was the first person to ever do that). He was kind, but seemed like he got a little too much of that from fanboys like me.

But to me, by a wide country mile, his best performance was in the Night Gallery episode "Theyre Tearing Down Tim Riley's Bar", where he gives a passionate-to-the-point-of-drunk-on-it performance that was worth any acting award you can name. His slow breakdown through out the episode, his eloquent speeches about being alone and afraid and then the heart-wrenching performance as he confronts all his dead friends and family in Tim Riley's bar. Even thinking about it brings tears to my eyes. An actor at his height with Rod Serling at his best. There is nothing greater. If you haven't seen it, you can watch it on you PC via Hulu. It's in Season One and it is a tour-de-force in acting.

It would have been so much more powerful if he gave his life destroying the creature. William Windom was a wonderful actor and he will be missed. RIP William.
