What is the best time to fish Sebastian inlet? ›

Whether you're fishing from a boat or the catwalks or jetties, Sebastian Inlet is the reason most people come fishing here. It's generally best to time your trip to the inlet around the incoming or outgoing tide. This is when you'll have the best chance of catching big Redfish and Snook, especially in the fall.

Sebastian Inlet's north jetty allows anglers to fish the inlet and surf-zone waters. Target species include jumbo red and black drum, flounder and mangrove snapper. Surf anglers plying the “suds” score snook, pompano, Spanish mackerel and many other delicious species.

A good crew will want to get to know you before departing. Most charter boat guides are friendly and enjoy being around people. Your crew may regale you with fun stories of their past exploits. Sebastian River Preserve State Park and drive along Buffer Preserve Drive till you reach the end of the road. You will come upon Manatee Overlook. It's a great spot for viewing wildlife such as manatees, pelicans and herons.

Boaters have access to the brackish waters of the Indian River Lagoon, the Intracoastal Waterway, the freshwater of the Sebastian River, and to the salty water of the Atlantic Ocean. The Gulf Stream is located about 25 to 30 miles east of Sebastian Inlet.

Is charter fishing worth the money? ›

When considering the price of the fishing boat, insurance, maintenance, slip fees, bait, tackle, repair, fuel, and storage, it will all add up quickly. Then divide that by ten or so fishing trips in a season, and usually, the average weekend angler and boaters will come out ahead financially by charter fishing.

Spending a day on the waters requires shoes that can get wet and will stay on your feet. Protecting your feet during a fishing charter trip is essential as many of the fish have teeth, and the deck can be slippery.

Basic paternoster. The paternoster is undoubtedly the most popular bottom-fishing rig and has caught just about everything that swims. With the sinker at the bottom and one or two hooks it is perfectly suited to drifting, surf fishing or even estuary fishing.

Single hook size can range from as small as a 6 up to a size 3/0, but most anglers prefer to rig a size 1 or 1/0 combined with a size 10 or 8 Lil Corky® for average river conditions.

Drive your boat towards the start of the current, shut off the motor, and let it drift with your line trolling behind. You can quickly cover a lot of ground with this method. If the fish are biting you'll get action in no time! With sinkers, you can fish off the bottom where more fish may be lurking.

Generally, the oceanside mouth of a pass is best on an outgoing tide when inlet fishing. The inshore mouth is often better when the tide begins its inward flow, though there are always exceptions. Game fish instinctively gravitate to these funnel points, knowing a smorgasbord of forage awaits them.

The best time to go fishing is typically either early morning or late evening when food is abundant and fish naturally feed. Within an hour of sunrise and an hour after sunset are the times when fish are likely to bite the most. Fishing for some species of fish is much better at night than during the day.

The best time of day to surf fish is usually the first few hours around dawn the final few hours around dusk. With that said, the tide is still the most important factor. If you really want to increase your chances, find the days where the high tide coincides with dawn or dusk.
