This recipe combines my two favorite things: fresh produce and an easy weeknight side dish. I always grab some bok choy when I see it as an option in my Misfits Market produce box. I got a few heads and decided to cook them a bit differently in the air fryer.

We absolute LOVE our Air Fryer and I’ve been trying all kinds of delicious vegetables in it. I’ve been having a lot of fun trying out new ways to use it, and let me tell you, the air fryer is made for bok choy. They were an amazing side dish with vegetable fried rice!

The air fryer gets the bok choy leaves tender in the middle, and crispy at the edges.

  • Bok Choy – I get my bok choy in a produce box when it’s in season.
  • Low Sodium Soy Sauce – I like using a low sodium soy sauce to reduce the amount of salt overall in my recipes.
  • Toasted Sesame Oil: The sesame oil gives the perfect toasty flavor to the peppers.
  • Raw Honey: We use our own honey, straight out of the beehives for us! As beekeepers, we have plenty of raw honey so I try to use it in all my recipes instead of sugar. I’d recommend trying a local farmers market to find the best raw honey in your area. Or else, this raw organic honey online here is the next best thing.
  • Sesame Seeds – I love adding a handful of these sesame seeds to finish off this recipe! These seeds add a nice crunch and light flavor to this dish.
  • Lemon Juice – for a little extra pop of flavor at the end.

Perfect Bok Choy in the Air Fryer

We have an Air Fryer (it has legit over 30k positive reviews on Amazon) and we are in LOVE with this thing! Since we don’t use a microwave, this air fryer is perfect for heating up things quickly. It’s been really fun to make all kinds of recipes in the Air Fryer: crispy vegetables, tofu, muffins, and it’s great for reheating leftovers.

I was an air fryer skeptic for a long time, but highly recommend this air fryer for anyone who loves to cook! I got this one as a gift, so would also recommend this as a great gift for friends or family.

How Do I Air Fry Bok Choy?

  1. Chop you bok choy. I cut each bok choy in half vertically, then vertically again through each half. I like to keep the base of the stem in tact which keeps the bok choy pieces together.
  2. In a bowl, mix the bok choy quarters, soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, and honey. Toss well to combine.
  3. Place the bok choy in the air fryer basket (or air fryer rack, depending on your model).
  4. Set air fryer to 380 degrees, and cook for 8 minutes. Halfway through cooking, shake well.
  5. Once peppers have finished cooking, add sesame seeds on top and serve hot! You can keep the bok choy stems in tact for presentation, or trim the base/stem off before serving.
